The direction of our work

Communication access belongs
in workforce preparation.

We are exploring how staff can learn to recognize communication needs, ask respectful questions, coordinate appropriate supports, and keep participation visible across care settings.

Our team

People bring
the work together.

Meet Laura Newman, Langeston Hughes, Janet Fleege, and Cindy Matz—the people listed on Strong Culture’s existing team page.

Hi, I’m Laura

I help communities and organizations understand what gets overlooked.

Strong Culture began from a deeply personal place: lived experience, systems experience, and the belief that people should not have to disappear inside the very environments that are supposed to support them.

My work brings together community-centered consulting, communication-access planning, workplace training, and rural systems work. I support DeafBlind, Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and low-vision communities while helping organizations understand how access, communication, and culture shape whether people can fully participate.

I work with communities, employers, educators, care providers, and public systems that want to move from good intentions to practical, respectful action.

The thread through all of this work

  • Centering lived experience and listening to the people most affected.
  • Making communication needs visible, understood, and easier to support.
  • Equipping teams with practical tools for access, trust, and belonging.
  • Building bridges between communities, workplaces, care systems, and rural partners.

How Strong Culture Helps

Communication access and workplace culture are part of the same system.

People participate more fully when communication is accessible and the people around them know what to do. Strong Culture brings lived experience, practical planning, consulting, and training together to create change that people can actually feel.

Community & Communication Access

Centering DeafBlind, Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and low-vision communities.

I help communities and systems identify communication barriers, understand what meaningful access requires, and build clearer pathways for participation and support.

  • DeafBlind community engagement and consulting
  • Communication-access planning across care and community settings
  • Rural access coordination and systems navigation
  • Practical guidance shaped by lived experience

Training, Workshops & Speaking

Bringing mental-health education into everyday places.

Strong Culture works with workplaces, schools, support groups, community organizations, healthcare and frontline teams, conferences, faith communities, and rural partners to make mental-health knowledge and pathways to support more available where people already gather.

  • Mental Health First Aid certification
  • Youth suicide prevention through belonging and connection
  • Grief, loss, stress, boundaries, and sustainable care
  • Keynotes, workshops, facilitated conversations, and customized education
